Pre-Prep

The education children receive in Pre-Prep is the foundation upon which they build the rest of their lives. With this in mind, St. Edward’s curriculum is planned to engage and develop their curiosity. Children learn best through first hand experiences and the curriculum is formed around topics and themed events that little boys enjoy.

The Pre-Prep aims to provide a safe, exciting, stimulating and happy environment where boys can begin their formal education. The intention is to make the time the boys spend in school as fun and as interesting as possible. At St. Edward’s we celebrate and channel the lively and competitive nature of young boys.

The Pre-Prep’s main features are:

Small, mixed ability classes where boys are challenged to reach their full potential.
Excellent pupil teacher ratio. All classrooms are well equipped and have a full time classroom assistant working alongside the teacher.
Staff adopt learning styles to suit the demands and needs of young boys.
Emphasis is placed upon the acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills.
Specialist teachers for french, music, drama, PE, games and swimming add another dimension to the teaching team.
Excellent home/school relationships.
Early morning sessions and a day boarding facility mean care is provided, if required from 7.45a.m. until 5:50p.m.

Boys are guaranteed opportunities to interact with adults and children in formal, informal and play situations, and are encouraged to choose appropriate behaviour for specific circumstances. The boys are encouraged to develop their self-confidence and independence, and considerable attention is paid to their personal, social and moral development.
